You may win and, you may lose and, you may hold till the end Of the moments where, thoughts surrender and our heart just let go I’m not searching for a hidden meaning, I’m just digging up some clues Maybe it’s a case of desperation to get me through these blues Or I’ll be back on the plane, back on the plane, back on the plane to nowhere Back on the planes, back on the planes, back on the plane to nowhere We lay in silence and we lay in darkness, we lay the whole night through Just as morning she, sang her slow song, I fell hard before you I’m not asking for an explanation, or a look inside my mind I guess its just a heart to lean on, to get me through these times Or I’ll be back on the plane, back on the plane, back on the plane to nowhere Back on the plane, back on the plane, back on the plane to nowhere I’m not searching for a hidden meaning, I’m digging up some clues Maybe it’s a case of desperation to get me through these blues Or I’ll be back on the plane, back on the plane, back on the plane to nowhere Back on the plane, back on the plane, back on the plane to nowhere

Mainlands 03:06
I’m heading out to the Mainlands, I think I’ll follow the back lanes I think I’ll follow the lanes Stop wait. Did you forget all the answers, I’m supposed to bring with me? I think it must be the rain, falling down on the mainlands, falling down on me You say there’s no condition of entry, the way I see it there’s plenty I’m gonna run when its dark And raze all the shadows in waiting, crashing down on the buildings You look away and they’re gone Looking out to the mainlands. Theres plenty there for me. Heading out to the mainlands. Waiting there for me Waiting there for me Waiting there for me Waiting there for me Waiting there for me If there’s a light in the distance, its the moon on the water I know its time to let go Don’t shake when the colours surround you, and my words loose their meaning Just get ready to move Make your way to the mainlands. Waiting there for you Can you feel the mainlands? Coming over you Coming over you Coming over you Coming over you Coming over you

I think it must be an instinct to keep on repeating things, erase and rewind again I’m tired but that’s not the answer, I feel like a modern man trapped in a modern can Let it go, don’t think it over. Follow the lines on the outside Unfettered love completely What goes to the otherside? When all around you is quiet, sing like a cannon ball blown through a megaphone It’s not that I’m in denial, I pick at the open sore, I dig till it hurts no more Let it go, don’t think it over. Follow the lines on the outside Unfettered love completely What goes to the otherside? What comes from the otherside? The otherside The otherside The otherside I hardly need a reminder, to fix these broken bones worn out from getting old They cry like angels in mourning. Weep like a willow tree. Fade like a memory Let it go, don’t think it over. Follow the lines on the outside Unfettered love completely What goes to the otherside? What comes from the otherside? The otherside The otherside The otherside You’re tired but that’s not the answer, you feel like a modern man trapped in a modern can I’ll let it go, I won’t think it over. I’ll follow the lines from the outside Unfettered love completely What goes to the otherside?

You will never wear that crown again, you will never feel its weight Colours fade. Colours fade. You’re my King you’re my kingdom made, holding court in our parade Memories fade. Memories grey and they weep Weep for our daughter, weep for daughter, weep for our daughter she’s brave There’s a ship on a waterway, I can feel the swell come in The night is still and the sea has won, another generations gone Let it pull, let it do as it will then Weep for the fathers who weeps for the son who weeps for their mother she’s brave Weep for our daughter, weep for daughter, weep for our daughter she’s brave Weep for our daughter, weep for daughter, weep for our daughter she’s brave As the hearts and the minds give in, fading in and out of time Like a tree, shedding leaves as they die Learn and discover, speak without speaking, grow into something much more Weep at the Stories, weep at their meanings, weep for ones we can’t save Weep for our daughters, weep for daughters, weep for our daughter she’s brave

Hey there, hey there what’s your name? My name is light, to take you away from the dark So be still, be still let me in Give me your soul, cos you gotta give in to give in You may kick and you may scream, I’ll hold my tongue Like a dog on a leash there’s nowhere to run, there’s nowhere to be but here Be brave, be brave whilst you’re young My name is release, now hold me and cry if you can For I’ve lived, I’ve seen what you’ve seen I buried my lover lost, and I’ve carried her bones to the grave You may run and you may hide, but I’ll find you still Like a bird on the wire, frozen with fear, just open your wings to me I’m your light in the dark Your light in the dark So hold on, hold on to your will I know it makes sense, in these moments of sadness you feel Those tears, those tears when they dry, they carry your mothers heart, and the souls of the families we grieve You may sing without a voice, in this empty world The echoes they make, will ring in my heart and open the door for you Your light in the dark Your light in the dark Light in the dark Light in the dark You may kick, you may scream I’ll find you still Cos I’m your light in the dark Your light in the dark Your light in the dark is me

about

I felt a break was needed before commencing the process of recording the next long player. Songs were coming fast and I found myself with a decision to make...either start album two, or scratch the itch to record stripped back and solo. Rohan suggested booking a couple of days in the studio and recording old school…….. live to tape using vintage equipment. I kept the lid shut on the piano and set up with my acoustics I used my Jim Matheas hand built small bodied acoustic in open G on Back on the Planes, Mainlands and Weep for our Daughter. Jim built this guitar for me in 1997 and continues to make exceptional instruments today at his workshop in Fitzroy. The Other side and Light in the Dark features my 1978 Gibson J45, which is bruised, battered, but extremely beautiful. It once belonged to Boxcar Willy, but thats onther story... Vocals came through a vintage Neumann U47 Guitars were captured by an AEA 92 ribbon mic, and the whole damn lot was printed on to 2 inch tape on a Studer a800. Here it is, with plenty of hiss, wow and flutter, the odd fluffed note, string noise and vocal inflection.
